Frequently Asked Questions

Do I have to live in Hull?

This Hull and East Yorkshire site covers just that, but there are lot of local Gig Buddies sites across the UK. We can help you find your nearest one if it’s not us.

How long does it take to get a gig buddy?

Finding a gig buddy can sometimes be quick or sometimes take a little while. This depends on your preferences and who is already signed up. It is different for everyone but our Coordinators will be able to give you a rough idea.

What is the process to volunteer?

You will have an informal chat with one of our coordinators who will talk you through what to expect. They’ll ask about your previous experiences, no experience is required, this is just to find out what support you may need so we can help you feel prepared.

  • 2/3 hours training covering learning disability awareness, safeguarding and GDPR

  • Two references

  • DBS check

What does volunteering look like?

Volunteering looks different for everyone, the three main things to expect are:

  • Meet with your buddy once a month

  • Attend group socials

  • Volunteers can claim expenses

What are socials?

At Gig Buddies we run a social once a month where gig buddy members are able to come together. These could be at a gig, event or down the local pub. It will be different every month. You can come along to these before you have a gig buddy match.

Do I have to pay?

Gig Buddies is free to join. Like anyone, if you want to go to a gig you have to pay the price of the ticket. You only need to pay for yourself, not your buddy. There should be offers of a companion ticket which our Coordinators will be able to help with.

What about transport?

Gig Buddies does not supply or arrange travel to or from our events. Buddies will have to arrange their own transport, but we are always happy to have a chat about travel, to help figure out what will work the best for you.
